Footprints on Secret Beach

After walking from the end of Secret Beach in Kauai back towards the path up the hill, I paused, turned around, and looked where I had just walked. This is what I saw. There are few places as perfect.

Ship in Bergen Sunset

While walking back to my hotel in Bergen, Norway at 10:15 PM, I saw this incredible light behind a ship at the other end of the harbor. I zoomed in, cropped close, and just recorded the beautiful image that I saw. Here it is!

Waves At Secret Beach

Another beautiful day at Secret Beach on the island of Kauai. I like the perspective of this shot with the beach on the horizon in the background. To get this angle, I hiked out to some rocks at the end of the beach and looked back at the sand.

Serenity Bay

Serenity Bay is on the Carribean island of Castaway Cay. It is the place I want to be right now!!

"Magic" in the Carribean

It's tough to get a shot on the top deck of the Disney Magic on a day at sea without one person in the frame. This day was beautiful. The ship is beautiful. The Carribean is beautiful. Why am I sitting here typing this description? I want to be there!

Stars and Stripes in St. Maarten

This isn't just a sailboat picture. This is from the "grinder" position looking forward on the 12 meter yacht "Stars and Stripes" which was skippered by Dennis Connor while winning back the America's Cup in Australia in the 1987 competition. We were able to sail in a mini America's Cup Regatta against a Canadian yacht while we were visiting the island of St. Maarten. I love the lines in the photo, but the memories of that day are even better!

Hanalei Pier at Sunset

I got under a tree to take this shot. If you have ever been to this place on the island of Kauai, you know how special this spot is. It started to rain shortly after I took this photo (not unusual) and I changed cards in my camera at that time. I got into the car and started to drive away when I discovered that I had dropped the card with this photo (and many others) on it. We drove back to the pier and looked all over the beach and ultimately found the memory card in the sand. I'm glad we went back!

Siesta Key Sunset

This was an unbelievable sunset at Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida. This is what the colors looked like. I have not enhanced this photo in any way.

Inner Harbor-Baltimore

This was taken near the Baltimore Aquarium at twilight. There is a moment after the sun goes down when these beautiful colors appear. Take a picture of almost anything and it looks good. The harbor in Baltimore helps it look better though!

Volvo Ocean Race

We were in Annapolis, MD and just happened to be there when the sailboats that were competing in the nine-month-long, around-the-world sailboat race were in port. I liked the lines and colors in this shot. This was the best vantage point I could get.

Sunset Through a Window

I love to photograph sunsets. Every one is different. I decided to take this one through a window on the cruise ship "Disney Magic." It was taken somewhere in the carribean. The window, rail, and logo on the window add interest for me.

Masses of Masts

This was in the harbor in Barcelona, Spain. I used a telephoto lens and cropped tight. The number of sailboats was astounding.

Overlook at Capri

We were on the island of Capri and our tour guide mentioned that we might want to walk down this path for a few hundred feet and we would come to a garden with an overlook of the ocean. He didn't really say it was that spectacular or special. We walked--this is what we saw. I guess when you see this every day, it isn't that special. It was to me!

Hobie Cats at Castaway Cay

After a wonderful day on Castaway Cay in the Carribean I got this shot on the way back to the ship. The afternoon sun made the sails glow. I also liked the ship as a background.

Afternoon Sun on the Sea

This was taken in the afternoon from the top deck of the Disney "Magic" somewhere in the Caribbean on one of our days at sea. By shooting directly into the sun, the photo takes on a monochromatic look. I love the sheen of the sun on the railing.

"Magic" at Costa Maya

This is a shot of the Disney "Magic" tied up in port on the pier in Costa Maya, Mexico. It is seldom that you can get such close access to view how this monstrous ship is secured. I liked the perspective of the ship, the ropes, and the absence of people or other things in the background to clutter the picture.

Glass Wave

With the shutter speed set very fast stopping the action, this wave image looks almost like glass.
