Hummingbird

I caught this shot of a hummingbird at sunset the other night while standing very still next to our hummingbird feeder on our back deck. I used a very fast shutter speed, high ISO, and telephoto lens to "freeze" the motion. I never knew what hummingbird wings looked like!

Bird on a Canopy

This morning I noticed this bird perched on top of the canopy on our back deck. I was very quiet as I sneaked up on him to take his picture. When I was through, I wanted him to leave---not such an easy task. It finally took a broomstick to get him to fly off! Disclamer--no harm came to any bird during or after photographing him for this blog.

Chipmunk

I chased this little chipmunk around near the entrance to Box Canyon Falls in Ouray, Colorado. Finally he stopped near these leaves so I could take this shot.

Lizard

I chased this little guy into the bushes on a hike at Lake Powell. I was happy he stopped and looked back at me for a second so I could capture this image.

Dragonfly

We were on a hike up Smith's Fork at Lake Powell when I happened upon this beautiful blue and black dragonfly. He posed on this rock long enough for me to compose, focus, and shoot. He was very cooperative allowing me to get this beautiful shot.

Giraffe

I like this simple photo of this gifaffe against the solid green background of leaves and trees. I was on a moving truck at Animal Kingdom in Disney World.

Pidgeon in Luxumbourg Gardens

This shot was taken in Luxumbourg Gardens in Paris, France. What I liked about it is the color of the flowers in the background as will as the irridescent color of the neck feathers.

Seagull at Jomfruland

I was sitting on the beach on this tiny island in Norway called "Jomfruland" when this seagull began flying around above me. I watched him for a minute or two, and then tried to catch a photo of him while in flight. I love this one because of the blurred background and the full wing extention.

Bird on a Rope

We were standing on a pier waiting for a ferry when a bird flew over and landed on this rope right next to us. It was a bright, sunny day, so I used a fill flash to light the detail of the dark feathers. He posed, I set my camera, took the picture, and he flew away--just like I planned it!

Main Street Horse

We rode in the front row of this trolly down Main Street in Magic Kingdom. I took several photos looking forward. I took one (this one) after we got off. I like the view of the horse in this one better than the ones taken from the other point of view (for obvious reasons). Beautiful animal!

Long-Necked Bird

An interesting shot of a bird with an extremely long neck. I cropped close to accentuate the long neck and beak. It was fun following this guy around Magic Kingdom.

Sicilian Lizard

We were visiting the ancient Acropolis at Selinunte in Sicily, Italy. I took tons of photos of the ruins, but one of my favorites of the day was this shot of this colorful lizard on this colorful rock. Click on it to see the detail and color of his skin.

Peacock

There is this beautiful little grouping of cottages on the grounds of the palace in Versailles, France. This peacock was wandering around in the yard of one of the cottages. This is the only photo I took of him. I wanted a close-up of his face. He accommodated me by staring right at me!

Long Legged Spider

I was hiking around in Kolob Canyon (Part of Zion Canyon in southern Utah) taking wide-angle landscape photos when I looked down at a rock at my feet and discovered this spider. Sometimes the coolest things to photograph are the things we usually overlook.

Gorilla

I waited for quite a long time for this gorilla to come out in the open and sit by this little waterfall at Animal Kingdom. This is an amazing setting to see these magnificent animals.

This guy sat and posed for me. I used a 200mm lens to get this shot. Animal Kingdom is such an awesome place!

Frog on a Lilly Pad

I was taking pictures of these lilly pads when this frog appeared almost on cue. He waited around for a minute, I got this picture, and he was gone.

Macaw

We were on our way to the back of Animal Kingdom to go on the Safari Ride when I got delayed at the front of the park taking photos of these extraordinary birds. I think they enjoyed posing for me as much as I enjoyed photographing them. My wife had to call me on the cell phone to find me and get me to catch up with her and our friends.
