Fall Color

Sometimes, (actually most of the time) a beautiful photo presents itself for just a moment. I don't know how special this photo is, but the color is beautiful. I was watching a football game on TV on a rainy day and happened to look outside and see that the sun came out for just a second. That's when I snapped this.

Autumn Night

Last night I took this shot of a golden tree which was being backlit by a city street lamp. The time was 11:00 PM and there was a full moon lighting the mountain backdrop. The outer leaves of the tree are blurry due to slight movement because of a breeze. Camera settings were ISO 400, F5, 30 second exposure. I took the same shot 12 hours later. See the next post. Isn't light fun!

Autumn Day

This photo was taken 12 hours later at 11:00 AM. The settings were ISO 400, F9, 1/320 sec. Quite a different result with sunlight! I like them both.

Just some beautiful fall colors in American Fork Canyon.

Autumn Colors

I found this beautiful sight in American Fork Canyon looking back at the setting sun through these trees. I like the many colors of the leaves against the dark trunk and branches of the trees.

Yellow Aspen

We went on a drive over the Alpine Loop the other day. I was struck by this bright yellow aspen among some others that hadn't turned yet. The sun was perfect for this shot.

Ski Lift in the Fall

Shot at a mild telephoto length from the parking lot at Sundance, the empty ski lift chairs and the sun reflections off the cables amidst the turning leaves and evergreens make this an interesting shot to me.

Autumn Leaves

I like this particular shot because of the brightness of the sunlit leaves against the almost black sky. The sun was barely shining through a break in the dark clouds.

Lone Tree in a Field

While driving to St. George I noticed this tree just nortth of Cedar City. I couldn't stop on the way down, but I made note of the mile marker so I could stop on the way home and photograph it. I'm glad I did because the light and the sky were perfect when we came back.

Fall Leaf

I liked the sun coming through the leaf making it translucent. This was behind Sundance in the early fall a couple of years ago. Click on it to see the detail of the veins in the leaf.

Seattle Street in the Fall

I was in downtown Seattle this fall, and it had just stopped raining (a rare moment). The large yellow leaves and reflection of the lights on the pavement caught my eye. I used a low point of view for this shot.

Sunrise

Light is a beautiful thing. I've found you don't have to be in an exotic location to see some pretty incredible things-- you just have to notice them. I was getting ready to leave my house this morning and glanced out the window and saw this gorgeous sight. I stepped out on my deck and took this photo.

Autumn at Sundance

This was taken while riding the ski lift at Sundance. I especially liked the gradation of green to yellow to orange against the deep blue background. The dead wood adds a stark contrast to the colorful leaves.
